Dennis does nothing to improve the reputation of Diesels on Sodor.  He's the diesel who will do anything to get out of working.  He's lazy.  To disguise this, he takes advantage of any opportunity to create an excuse and avoid a decent day's work.  The truth is he doesn't want to.  When found out, however, he's sorry -- until the next opportunity comes along.
